Synopsis
In the 17th century, Louis XIV financed the construction of a canal connecting the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, the second-largest construction project of his reign after the Palace of Versailles.
Using the latest technology of its time, the beautifully conceived Canal du Midi is one of Europe's oldest functioning canals and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
