Synopsis

Born in 1798 in Caserta, descendant of the royal family of Sicily that was tossed around by the revolutionary wars, Marie-Caroline grew up in Italy. She went to France to marry the son of King Charles X, who was pressured by his father to give an heir to the crown.

The assassination of her husband in 1820 and the Revolution of 1830 nudged her to take an active role in the monarchy in France.

SECRETS OF HISTORY draws a portrait of the Duchess, an art lover, a great patron of the arts and an occasional painter herself.
