Synopsis

Belly dancing is as old as the pharaohs and as popular as the pyramids. But Abdel Fattah al-Sissi’s regime has turned moral conservatism into a political instrument. Under the pretext of fighting Islamism on its own turf, it has silenced women’s bodies.

This report follows the dancers who are resisting, organizing, and trying to keep alive this ancient art form that has become an act of transgression.
