Synopsis

India may seem like an unusual destination for a world wine tour. Yet the country has a history related to this nectar, even if it has been forgotten. Archaeological remains show traces of winemaking dating back nearly 4,000 years.

Traditional consumption, once lost, has revived in recent decades. India has 25 million connoisseurs, a significant market to tap. Today, wine is becoming trendy among the Indian gentry, and Bollywood is happy to promote it as a social status symbol.

In 2000, the country had six estates. Today, there are 65, most of them in Maharashtra.
