Synopsis

For a long time, the ruins of Volubilis were said to belong to a pharaoh’s palace. But this statement sounded surprising for the site was located in Morocco.

As early as the 16th century, Latin correspondence was found there, a telltale sign that the buildings were Roman not Egyptian.

The first excavations started at the end of the 19th century and revealed not a palace but the Roman city of Volubilis.
