Synopsis

The Humboldt Current's journey from the southern reaches of Patagonia to the equator serves as the backdrop for a vast array of interconnected life.

A female blue whale begins her migration northward, feeding on the rich supplies of plankton and krill brought to the surface by the upwelling currents. This abundance supports a diverse marine ecosystem, including various seabirds and other large marine mammals like orcas and humpback whales.

The current's influence extends beyond the ocean, bringing moisture to the arid Atacama Desert, supporting unique terrestrial wildlife such as prowling pumas.
